TELL US YOUR STORY . . .
  • My husband found some scaffolding he needed at a yard sale near Merry Oaks but figured we would shop awhile and buy it on our way home. When I went back to purchase it, someone had beat us to it and was loading it on his truck. I mentioned that my husband sure wanted that scaffolding for two big projects we were about to start and would he be willing to make a deal. He said he too had a project he needed it for but wouldn’t be starting the project for another six months. I asked if we might rent it from him. He said he would let us borrow it for a couple of months at no charge. Would even deliver it to our house although if our home was very far away, he might have to charge for gas. Talk about a bargain! I LOVE THE 400 MILE SALE! You meet the nicest people.

  • Two people drove from California in search of metal and other products they needed by a famous artist for his artwork. By the second day of the sale, they had already filled an entire U-Haul trailer, took it down to Nashville, shipped the contents to California, then headed back to the sale to fill the trailer again.

  • This year the local Cadiz radio station WKDZ 106.5 FM had a scavenger hunt. They posted the items they were looking for online. They had two of their reporters fo out to visit the various yard sales. One started at Aurora and the other started at Fairview. Each made their way from each end stopping at yard sales looking for the items on their scavenger hunt list. They had a contest between the two to see who could find the most items on the list. They reported in and had live remotes from their stops along the way. It was great fun and really got the listeners interested in the 400 Mile Sale. Vendors were calling in to tell them about an item they had that was on the list. Great idea and a good way to get the 400 mile sale promoted. Hope they do it next year. They also put photos on their website of the items and various vendors that they stopped by. www.wkdzradio.com
Just a note on this scavenger hunt: one of the items was a wig. One young man was not having any luck in finding one and stopped at the senior citizen center in Hopkinsville who had set up a huge indoor yard sale. One of the ladies felt sorry for him, went into the restroom, removed her wig and came back and handed it to him. He took a photo and gave her back her wig! How fun is that!

  • We had several antique items, books, and dishware plus some ordinary yard sale items. Actually, we throught our items might be "too high priced" for a yard sale, but we sold many antique items to people who knew what they were and were a great price. Our cheaper items seemd to go well also. Meeting and talking with everyone was a delight. The "antique" items brought out many stories of how they remembered the item and how their family used it. A lady remodeling her kitchen in black & white cows was extremely happy to see our black & white splatter ware dishes. She bought them all! To the delight of a book lover we had the original version of Uncle Tom's Cabin, Young Peoples Edition and purchased this for his collection.

  • Everyone loved our 8' dinosaur we set up for the second year. We were told that people everywhere were talking about it. Neat to meet and see the folks on the tour bus from all over esp. West Virginia. We have made this a family event, we email many family members to get them to participate with us. Our 2 year old has as much fun as we do.

  • Everyone was very kind and would say ya'll and I would say yuns, so I was the one with the accent!

  • My favorite stop was a red barn in Russellville. It was just like "American Pickers"!
One young man from Arkansas purchased this leather end table for just $40.
A couple from Bowling Green found a bargain . . . ALL three glass top tables for just $60.
